GE and LG Dryer Repair in Cedar Rapids

GE dryers usually need an igniter, fuse, element or front glides. LG models more often show a code, like d80 for a blocked vent, nP for a power problem or tE for a sensor. We read the code, test the part and fix most the same day.

  • Same-day or next-morning visits
  • Price before any work
  • 90-day OEM parts and labor warranty

The short answer

GE gas dryers most often need an igniter or valve coils, and GE electrics a thermal fuse or element. LG models show codes: d80 to d95 means a restricted vent, nP means the dryer isn’t getting full power, and tE means a temperature sensor fault. In Cedar Rapids GE and LG dryer repair typically costs $75 to $210.

Two very different dryers

GE dryers are mostly straightforward machines with simple controls, and most repairs are familiar wear parts. LG machines lean on electronics: Flow Sense vent monitoring, sensor drying and a display that shows fault codes. We repair both, and the right starting point is different for each.

GE dryer problems

GE gas dryer won’t heat: igniter or valve coils

GE gas dryers light the burner with a glowing igniter. If there is no glow, the igniter has cracked or a fuse ahead of it is open. If it glows but no flame follows, the gas valve coils or the flame sensor are the fault.

What we test: the igniter, flame sensor and coils, and we watch the burner light. See gas dryer repair.

GE electric dryer won’t heat: fuse, element or thermostat

A blown thermal fuse from a blocked vent is the usual cause, then the heating element and the thermostats.

What we test: the heating circuit part by part.

GE squeaks or scrapes: glides and bearing

Many GE dryers carry the front of the drum on slides or glides and the back on a bearing. Worn glides squeal and can leave marks on clothes. A worn bearing grinds.

What we test: the front glides, drum felt and rear bearing.

LG dryer problems

LG not drying: the vent (d80, d90, d95)

LG Flow Sense measures how restricted the vent is and shows d80, d90 or d95 when it is 80, 90 or 95% blocked. The dryer still runs, but loads take longer and the heat wears parts. The fix is a vent cleaning, not a dryer part.

What we test: airflow at the outside hood and the full vent. See dryer vent cleaning.

LG no heat: element, thermistor or power

On electric LG models, an nP code means the dryer isn’t getting full 240-volt power, often half the breaker. tE codes point to the temperature sensor. If neither shows, the heating element or high-limit thermostat is next.

What we test: the power supply, the thermistor and the element.

LG ends early or clothes damp: moisture sensor

LG sensor dry relies on metal strips inside the drum. Dryer sheet film makes them read dry. Clean them with rubbing alcohol before you call.

What we test: the sensor strips and wiring.

LG squeaks or thumps: rollers, idler and belt

LG models are belt-driven, with drum rollers and an idler pulley like most dryers. Worn rollers thump and a dry idler squeals.

What we test: roller spin, the idler and the belt.

LG dryer error codes

These are the LG codes people ask us about most.

Code or lightWhat it usually meansWhat to check first
d80, d90, d95Flow Sense: vent is 80, 90 or 95% restrictedLint screen, the duct behind the dryer, then a full vent cleaning
nPNo full power on an electric model (often half a breaker)Switch the double breaker fully off and back on
tE1, tE2Temperature sensor (thermistor) faultThe thermistor and its wiring
HSHumidity (moisture) sensor faultClean the sensor strips, then check the wiring
dE or d EDoor open or door switch faultClose the door firmly, then the switch
PFPower was interrupted during the cyclePress start again. If it repeats, check the outlet

Code meanings vary a little by model and year. We confirm each one against the service data for your model, then test the part before we replace it.

More on the vent codes in our LG d80, d90 and d95 guide, and every brand in our dryer error codes guide.

My LG shows d80. Is it broken?

No. d80 means Flow Sense has measured the vent as about 80% restricted. The dryer works, but it takes longer and runs hotter. Clean the lint screen and check the outside hood. If the code keeps showing, the vent needs a proper cleaning. d90 and d95 mean it is worse.

LG control boards and displays are priced after testing, and some are ordered for a second visit. We’ll tell you up front. The full cost guide lists every part.

How a GE or LG repair visit works

  1. Send us the model number. On GE and LG models the tag is usually inside the door opening. Tell us any code on an LG display too.
  2. We test before we replace. A code or a symptom points to an area. The meter confirms the part.
  3. You approve the price. We show you the failed part and give you the full price.
  4. We run a full cycle. Heat, spin and airflow checked before we leave.

Dryer not working?

Tell us the brand, gas or electric, and any code on the display. Calls before noon usually get a same-day visit.

GE and LG dryer repair: more questions

Questions GE and LG owners ask us around Cedar Rapids, Marion and Hiawatha.

What does nP mean on an LG?

nP means the dryer isn’t getting full power, which on an electric model usually means one side of the 240-volt double breaker has tripped. The drum may still turn but there is no heat. Switch the breaker fully off and back on. If it comes back, the outlet or cord needs checking.

What does a tE1 code mean?

tE1 and tE2 are temperature sensor (thermistor) faults. The sensor or its wiring has failed, so the dryer can’t control its heat. It is a quick part to test and replace.

Why does my GE gas dryer glow but not light?

The igniter is working, so the gas isn’t getting through. The gas valve coils or the flame sensor are the usual fault. Make sure the gas valve behind the dryer is open first.

Do LG dryers have belts?

Yes. LG washers are direct-drive, but LG turns the drum with a belt, like most dryers. Belts, rollers and idlers wear on LG models too.

Are LG parts hard to get?

The common ones, like thermistors, fuses, elements, rollers and belts, are easy to get. Some control boards and displays are model-specific and may need ordering. We’ll tell you before we start if your repair needs a second visit.
